How to type Urdu online
- Click in the box above and type. The keyboard is phonetic: each English key gives the Urdu letter that sounds like it.
- Hold Shift for the second letter on a key — Shift + T gives ٹ, Shift + D gives ڈ, Shift + H gives ھ.
- Press Copy text and paste into WhatsApp, Facebook, email, Word or anywhere else. It is Unicode Urdu, so it shows correctly everywhere.
- For a longer piece, press Open in full editor. Your text comes along and you get fonts, sizes, tables and printing.

The comma, full stop, semicolon and question mark keys give the Urdu marks ، ۔ ؛ and ؟.
More than a keyboard
The full Urdulik editor uses the same keyboard and adds what a real document needs: Jameel Noori Nastaleeq and other Urdu fonts, headings, tables, verse layout for poetry, Urdu digits (۱۲۳), Islamic symbols, Hijri dates, voice typing and printing. When the words are for a notice or an advert, the poster maker is one tab away.
Typing Urdu on a phone
On a mobile phone, tap the letters of the on-screen keyboard above, or use your phone’s own Urdu keyboard — both work in the same box. Add Urdulik to your home screen and it opens like an app, even without internet.

Questions and answers
Do I need to install an Urdu keyboard or font?
No. The keyboard and the Nastaliq font are part of the page. Nothing is installed and your computer’s settings are not changed.
Will the Urdu text paste correctly in WhatsApp and Facebook?
Yes. The text is standard Unicode Urdu, so it shows correctly in WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Gmail, Word and every other app that supports Urdu.
How do I type ٹ, ڈ, ڑ and ھ?
Hold Shift: Shift + T is ٹ, Shift + D is ڈ, Shift + R is ڑ and Shift + H is ھ. The Shift button above the on-screen keyboard shows all second letters.
Can I type English in the same text?
Yes. Press the اردو button to switch to English and press it again to return. In the full editor, Ctrl + Space does the same.
Is the online Urdu keyboard free?
Yes, completely free, with no sign up and no limit on how much you type.
