Poetry and style
Akbar is the great comic poet of Urdu. He watched Indians of his day rush to copy English ways, dress and ideas, and he mocked it with gentle, biting wit. Behind the jokes is a serious worry about losing one’s own culture. He also wrote tender ghazals; «ہنگامہ ہے کیوں برپا» became famous in the voice of Ghulam Ali.
