When is an affidavit of residence needed?
A domicile certificate shows which district and province a person belongs to. It is needed for admissions on a district or provincial quota, for government jobs and for some scholarships. With the application the office asks for an affidavit that you live permanently in the district and hold no domicile from anywhere else.
Where it goes
The application goes to the office of the Deputy Commissioner or Assistant Commissioner of your district, in some places through a facilitation centre or an online portal. The affidavit is filed with copies of the CNIC, proof of residence such as a utility bill or property paper, and the education certificates the office lists.
Points to get right
- A person may hold a domicile of one district only. The affidavit says you have not obtained one elsewhere, so make sure that is true.
- The address must match the address on the CNIC. If it does not, update the CNIC first.
- State how long you have lived in the district.
- For a student under eighteen, the father or guardian normally swears the affidavit.

Before you sign
These are general formats to save typing. Requirements differ between offices, courts and provinces, and a paper about property or money has legal effect. Have the final wording checked by a deed writer or lawyer, use stamp paper of the correct value, and get the paper attested or registered where that is required.
